Strife signs with 6131 Records

After touring throughout the world in recent years, STRIFE decided it was time to unleash a new batch of songs and break their 11 years streak of recording silence. The groundwork for what would become their newest album, Witness A Rebirth, had been laid and their collective efforts began down the road to realization. With producer Nick Jett (Terror, Rotting Out, Backtrack) at the helm, STRIFE recruited friend and previous collaborator Iggor Cavalera (founding member of Sepultura) to perform drums for the album and traveled to Brazil to start the recording process with him. Soon after, they returned to California and put the rest of the pieces into place, including guest vocals by Billy Graziadei (of Biohazard) and Scott Vogel (of Terror), plus a guitar solo by Marc Rizzo (of Soulfly). The result serves as a testament to their talent, bridging their past (especially the highly acclaimed album “In This Defiance,” with which this album shares 4/5 of the members) with a more contemporary hardcore sound. Witness A Rebirth is at once both refreshing and evocative.
As long-time fans, 6131 Records jumped at the chance to release Witness A Rebirth. Due out this Fall, the album will be available on CD/LP/Digital. We are all about to witness the rebirth of something great.

Am I the only one who thought this was a weird label choice? Will check the album out nonetheless.
Why a weird label choice? As in ‘not big enough’ or?
I don’t know, I just expected them to release it on more of a “heavy hitter” like B9, Deathwish Inc or something. 6131 is pretty good though. Same record, just surprised by the label choice.
Going with 6131 is a solid choice for Strife I think. The label is Californian based just as the band and I don’t think Strife will be touring as much as in their Victory years so a smaller label kind of fits.
Yeah when I think about it it makes a lot of sense. Thanks
Plus, the Angermeans record was released pretty high profile back then, “Hardcore kings Strife are back, blah blah blah” but everybody thought it sucked balls. So I think it’s a smart move to regain some credibility on a smaller label.
Could also be that the bigger labels, especially after the Angermeans-debacle, weren’t so eager to work with Strife (somewhat of a has been band that still lives on songs they wrote over 15 years ago and that their singer let’s someone else sing because welll, Rick singing those edge-lyrics doesn’t make any sense at all).
Interested to hear that new material though.
I interviewed Rick by phone back when the Angermeans record came out, nice guy. The interview was for Reïnventing The Wheel issue 2 (AsIce’s Deadpool’s zine), but that never happened. A shorter, pretty bad version was later published on We’ll Make The Difference e-zine.
I used it for my Journalism finals as well, haha. Will see if I can still find it, maybe cool to ask Rick some questions and let him look back on the stuff he had to say to me back then.
Sounds like a plan!
PS > Deadpool also writes for SWNK these days.
Oh, yeah, d’oh… Of course, hahaha

Dubious, will reserve judgement. Angermeans was shit.
Wasn’t the band originally renamed Angermeans because of the new musical direction/the members no longer being edge? If I recall correctly they regrouped as Strife for a benefit and decided to keep that going. I think the Angermeans album was actually material they wanted to release as Angermeans the band.
There’s some stuff about that here.

Why the reformation and complete change in lyrical direction as to the subject of global politics instead of the straightedge emphasis?
What happened was when Strife split up Sid and Rick started a band called Angermeans which also featured Franklin from Shelter when he left the guys recruited me and then we did a benefit show .
But why not reform under a different name since Strife is preliminarily remembered as a straightedge hardcore band?
Like I was explaining before what happened were the guys started Angermeans when one of our crew guys (Jesse) passed away. We played a benefit show under the name of Strife because that is the way he would have wanted it, we started playing shows again with all the original Strife members in Angermeans we would constantly be requested to play Strife songs and although we are not a Straightedge band anymore we are however still Strife nothings changed.
In the interview I mentioned before Rick also showed some strong opinions on this subject, haven’t found it yet unfortunately.
