March – In The Air
Times are currently very kind to Dutch punkrock enthusiasts and White Russian Records absolutely seems to be on top of things. After snatching up quality orchestras like Harsh Realms, Call It Off and The 101’s, they have yet another medal contender on their hands with March.
On In The Air, this trio from the Breda area (featuring (ex-) members of The Patsys, All On Black and New Pokerface) present 5 tracks of up-tempo, straight forward melodic punkrock (somewhere in between Bouncing Souls and Off With Their Heads) with a healthy shot of sleazy garagerock. Distinguishing factor are the female vocals by singer/guitarist Fleur, that are decidedly more L7 than they are Deadline. These recordings sound somewhat less raw and screamy than she does live and that is a good thing, especially when she uses that kind of moany Courtney Love drawl.
Add to this a tight rythm section, a fittingly gritty guitar sound and a keen sense of catchy melodies and you have a new band to keep your eye on. If you like your melodic punkrock unpolished and reeking of smoke and beer, March is your band.
