Mixtape #1

In issue #1 I printed a mixtape, but that got taken offline pretty quickly. Not because I got a mail from the labels or artists demanding me to take stuff offline or anything… At the time the buzzword was MUXTAPE. And that was what I used at the time. I think the week the zine came out, that whole site got taken down though. Talking about timing. So, I think it’s about time I’ll put it up right here. I’m going to use the same descriptions I printed in the zine, just with an update here and there.

01. Only Living Witness – Prone Mortal Form
That intro. That voice. Fuck, I couldn’t leave this one out. Because of that amazing intro this is without a doubt the best track to start this mix with. You’re moshing.

02. Handsome – Needles
Handsome came up in the interview I had with Andrew from Aversionline.com. Amazing band. People need to talk about this band more often.

03. Fugazi – Waiting Room
I am a patient boy, I wait, I wait, I wait. I seem to be unable to do any mixtapes without this song. (I managed to do some mixtapes without the song by now)

04. Bad Brains – Sacred Love
I almost included a Rise song, simply because everyone seems to hate that album. This is probably my favorite Bad Brains song though. So good. (Check out the band Sacred Love too, good stuff)

05. Screaming Trees – Shadow Of The Season
Ooo shit. I did it. That’s not hardcore! That’s grunge! Amazing song though. Good one to blast through your speakers while driving.

06. Nirvana – Aneurysm
From my 9th to my 18th or something I didn’t listen to anything else but Nirvana. Live shows, unreleased tracks, everything. This is one of my favorite songs. (We covered it twice with Said And Done, loved it)

07. Social Decay – All I Feel Is Pain / Exit
Another gem I got to know through Andrew’s blog. That 7″ is so hard. (Keep an eye on this blog for an interview with singer Pugsey)

08. Joy Division – Transmission
Just clinging on to the hype “Control” caused. A great, dark song.

09. The Statler Brothers – Flowers On The Wall
One of my Johnny Cash live CD’s had a track with the Statler Brothers on it. I think I played that track more than the rest of the songs on there.

10. The Beatles – Back In The U.S.S.R.
First you’re putting in grunge and now you’re doing a song by the Beatles? Dude! Great pop song. Think this is my favorite Beatles song. This is the LOVE CD version.

11. Danger Mouse And Jemini – Omega Supreme
Where’s the hardcore? Nobody’s listening to hardcore anymore. Boohoo. This is hiphop. Great track to play while walking to work early in the morning.

12. Mama Cass Elliot – Make Your Own Kind Of Music
The track to play while driving back from a show.
